2026 Award Winners

 

Jr. High Player Of the Year

Capri MacQuarrie, Ecole McTavish

  • 5'10 guard from Ecole McTavish Mauraders in Fort McMurray who played on her schools JV Team
  • Strong ball handler and capable of scoring at all 3 levels
  • A versatile player, she demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout the season based on her dedication and competitive drive
  • Her coach indicated that she played a key role in finishing first in city playoffs

 

JV Player Of the Year

Eryn Aleman, Immanuel Christian

  • She floated between JV and Senior teams playing up to 50 minutes per night
  • In playoffs, she averaged 14 points per game, including 3 - 3pointers per game with a 47% shooting average
  • Her coach indicates that she has become one of the most elite shooters he has ever coached
  • Eryn was committed this season to growing as a teammate and leader

 

JV Player Of the Year

Olive Mill, William Aberhart High School

  • She was a key member of the William Aberhart JV girls team
  • She is defined by her clutch shooting, excellent defense and intense focus
  • With her high level of basketball IQ she is an asset on any team she plays on
  • She helped her team to a close 2nd at the city championship
  • Look for her to be an outstanding Sr. High Player next year

 

Grade 11 "A" Player Of the Year

Halyn Campeau, Eckville Jr./Sr. High

  • This talented 5'11 athlete led her team in rebounds
  • Her coach indicates that she steps up in big games and rebounds better than anyone he has seen
  • At Provincial she averaged 17.5 points, 2.4 blocks, 6 steals and 4 rebounds
  • Helped her team to a Zone Championship and a Bronze medal at Provincials

 

Grade 11 "4A" Player Of the Year

Esther Cage, Catholic Central

  • This talented and hard working athlete is multi-dimensional. She excels offensively and defensively
  • Her coach indicates that she does not know what a press break is, since she does not need one as a talented ball handler
  • She averaged 39 minutes per game; averaged 16.9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists per game
  • Collected numerous MVP and all-star awards this season
  • Named an all-star in the Prairie Sky Conference

 

Grade 11 "5A" Player Of the Year

Haiden Hall, Raymond High School

  • This talented and versatile 6'3 forward is one of the top players in the county
  • In Grade 10, she helped Centennial to a City and Provincial Championship
  • Last summer she was on the U17 Alberta team that won the National Championship
  • She has played on numerous community, club and all-star teams
  • Helped Raymond earn the first ever 5A Zone and Provincial championship
  • Will be attending the Basketball Canada U17 ID Camp

 

"A" Rookie Of the Year

Mäelle Drebert, Breton High School

  • Helped lead her team to 4 tournament victories, a Zone Championship, and a berth at Provincials
  • Her coach indicates that she lifts her whole team to another level and started all 34 games as a Grade 9
  • She is an exemplary athlete with the skill, poise and leadership of a Grade 12
  • Her character and sportsmanship is evident every time she steps on the court
  • An opposing coach said " she is one of the most impactful rookies at any level. She is a fierce competitor with a high IQ"
  • What stands out the most about her is her understanding of the importance of opponents, coaches, spectators and team mates as part of the game

 

"2A" Rookie Of the Year

Ellie Reimer, Prairie Christian Academy

  • This talented 5'9 Rookie started every game of the season and led her team in every category
  • Averaged 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals per game
  • Helped lead her team to a 24-2 record and a top 10 Provincial Ranking
  • She is a competitor and thrives in the physicality of the game
  • Has played in numerous club programs, including the U17 PEBL team
  • In 2025 was named the 2025 Top Offensive Player for the NBC Total Camp

 

"3A" Rookie Of the Year

Jaycie Lepko, Coaldale Prairie Winds 

  • This relentless Grade 10 was a pleasure to watch at 3A Provincials
  • Averaged 9.1 points, 2.2 steals and 1.2 assists per game
  • An energizer bunny, she is one of her teams best defenders
  • Her coach typically puts her on the other teams best players
  • Selected a Deep South League All-Star
  • Helped her team to a Silver medal at 3A Provincials

 

"4A" Rookie Of the Year

 

Rylee Lybbert, Holy Trinity Academy

  • Has had an outstanding start to her high school career
  • Her hustle, toughness and dedication makes her a dynamic defensive player
  • She was also effective on the offensive end; she was a threat from attacking the lane or hitting a 3 point shot
  • With excellent court vision she is able to distribute the ball creating numerous scoring opportunities for team mates
  • This season she recorded 153 rebounds, 83 steals, 75 assists and over 200 points
  • She helped lead HTA to a 4A Zone Championship and a 4th place finish at Provincials

 

"4A" Rookie Of the Year

Allie Layton, W.H. Croxford

  • Started every game as a Grade 10 on the senior team
  • Scored 13 points per game and led her team in stals
  • Her coach indicates that she practices as hard as she plays, and competes at everything
  • Her play was instrumental in earning a spot at 4A Provincials in Lethbridge
  • Her defensive focus led to a key stal that sealed a victory at the Rocky View League Championship game

 

"5A" Rookie Of the Year

Avery Gillrie, William Aberhart 

  • Averie was a key Grade 10 player on her senior team
  • Her unique combination of balance, power, strength, speed and finesse, she is one of Aberharts most dangerous weapons
  • She can crash and bang in the paint while being a threat from the perimeter
  • Her coach says of her "She is a tremendous team mate, has an incredibly supportive attitude  and is extremely coachable"
  • Helped her team to a silver medal at Calgary City Championships and a spot in 5A Provincials

 

"A" Player Of the Year

Ashlyn Doeve, Coaldale Christian

  • Has played school basketball for 5 years and club for one year in 2022
  • Scored a total of 728 points this season for an average of 27.2 points per game
  • 444 total rebounds, averaging 16.4 per game
  • Last year, she helped her team to a bronze at "A" Zones and Provincials and a second team all-star in the Deep South League
  • This past year, she was named a 1st team all-star and helped her team to a Zone and Provincial Championship
  • Signed earlier today with Lethbridge Polytechnic

 

"2A" Player Of the Year

Naamiya Hoekstra, Taber Christian

  • This is one of the top young players in Alberta with an elite basketball IQ
  • A multi-sport athlete, she holds a Provincial record in Javeline and has earned numerous volleyball and basketball awards
  • She sports impressive numbers on the season: 28.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 6.8 steals and 9.3 assists per game
  • Averaging 41.3 points per game, she led her team to a 2A Zone and Provincial Championship
  • Has participated on a number of club teams and has participated in basketball events in Canada, the U.S. and Europe
  • Last year she was named the 2A Rookie of the Year and was recently selected as MVP of the Deep South League

 

"3A" Player Of the Year

Chidimma Chukwunyerenwa, Monsignor McCoy 

  • At 5'10 she can touch the rim and dunk a tennis ball
  • Her coach indicated that she is the best athlete she has ever coached
  • 3 time 1st Team SEBC all-star
  • 2 time SEBC MVP
  • Averaged 24 points and 17 rebounds this season
  • Multiple 30 point and 30 rebound games this year
  • An exceptional student and athlete, she will suit up for the University of Toronto Blues in 2026-2027

 

"3A" Player Of the Year

Kaia Anderson, W.R. Myers

  • Last year's shooting stars Jr. High Player of the Year burst onto the high school scene as a 10th grade
  • One of the few grade 10s to ever earn a Player of the Year
  • Led her team in scoring, steals and assists
  • Her coach states that she gives great effort in all practices and games
  • She is coachable and keeps improving. Her coach says that she is confident, yet humble with no sense of entitlement
  • She makes everyone on her team better and her teammates all love her. 
  • She helped her team to a Zone and Provincial 3A Championship
  • We cannot wait to see this player for the next 2 years in high school

 

"4A" Player Of the Year

Ella Auch, Spruce Grove Composite

  •  Has had a storied basketball career so far
  • Metro all-star in all 3 seasons
  • Provincial silver medalist in 2025 and Provincial Champions in 2026
  • 3 time Provincial Team Player, including 2025 Summer Games National Championship
  • Her coach says she leads by example and makes everyone feel that they are a valuable member of the team
  • Coachable and striving to be her best on and off the court
  • She has developed into one of the premier posts in the county
  • Will suit up next year for 2 time defending National Champions - University of Saskatchewan Huskies

 

"5A" Player Of the Year

Pippa Gibb, Raymond High School

  • First ever 5A Player of the Year is currently at a Basketball Canada ID Camp
  • Her two older sisters are currently playing NCAA Division 1 
  • She has been offered a scholarship to BYU
  • Been on Alberta Provincial team for 4 years and earned a Canada Games National Championship
  • Plays on a Utah Club team in the summer
  • Led her Raymond team to a 2026 Zone and Provincial Championship
  • In 2025 played on U16 Canadian Team that competed in the Women's AmeriCup

 

Rising Star Award

Erin Miller, Sturgeon Heights

  • This young athlete is only in her second year of competitive basketball
  • She has transformed from a player who averaged 5 points a game to now averaging 28 points per game after working with Swoosh Basketball
  • In her league final, she scored 42 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and blocked 10 shots
  • She isn't flashy, just gets the job done
  • At 6'7 she is only beginning to realize her potential 
  • Her training video has 1.5 million views

 

Rising Star Award

Adrianna Plata, Senator Patrick Burns

  • Adrianna is a clear "rising star" in the Alberta Basketball scene
  • She plays for Senator Patrick. Burns during the school season while playing for CBA during club season
  • She is aggressive taking the ball to the hoop while also draining 3s from the arc
  • Her aggressive play is balanced by an outlook and demeanor that is all smiles, which makes coaching and playing with her effortless and enjoyable

 

Harle Heart Award

Piper Sullivan, Spruce Grove Composite

  • Coach says she is the most intense player on her team
  • Consistently makes everyone better
  • Battled numerous injuries since Grade 10 with sprained ankles, torn ankle ligaments and several concussions
  • Injuries never slowed her down and she persevered through adversity
  • In January she tore her ACL and Meniscus seemingly ending her season. She still held hope that she could get back on the court.
  • Against most medical orders she was allowed to play out her senior year with a high end knee brace
  • Came back on the court March 2 - 7 weeks after injury. Was scheduled for surgery March 16 but insisted on waiting until after Provincials
  • She played out the season and helped her team to a Zone and Provincial Championship
  • One of her coaches said that her resilience and heart is second to none
  • 4 days after Provincials she had her surgery

 

Rozdeba Resilience Award

Sara Reid, Bellerose Composite

  • Award is named after Dave Rozdeba of Medicine Hat
  • She tore her ACL in Grade 11 and missed a full year
  • She helped lead Bellerose to an undefeated season and Edmonton City Championship
  • She finished the season topping the league with 24.14 points per game, 8.55 rebounds, 8.36 steals and 2.68 assists
  • She had multiple 30 and 40 point games
  • Sara's story is one of determination, growth, heart and she is always grateful
  • Her resilience embodies this award

 

Miss Basketball Alberta

 

Amanda Guss, Western Canada High School

  • She is a true point guard who loves to distribute the ball and put her teammates in the best possible position to succeed
  • Her high school coach calls her "a difference maker who elevated everyone around her each time she stepped on the court
  • Over the years, she has developed into a leader on the court, known for her poise, vision and commitment to the team
  • Her leadership was just as impactful as her skill, setting the standard in both effort and attitude
  • She has had numerous incredible basketball experiences - a highlight was being a member of the Alberta U17 team that won the Gold medal at the Canada summer games
  • She is currently in Toronto at the Basketball Canada U18 Identification Camp
  • On April 5, she will play in the All-Canadian all-star game in Toronto. Only 24 athletes in Canada have been selected to play in this game
  • She had an outstanding season helping her team to a Calgary City Championship, and a silver at 5A Provincials
  • She is graduating in June from Western Canada's French Immersion program and will continue her academic journey at the University of British Columbia
  • She will be a huge part of the Thunderbirds basketball program moving forward
